About Avocet Rest

The property sits in ½ an acre of garden.  Nest boxes are liberally placed around the front and back garden, along with many bird feeders, which are in constant use.  We are proud to say that 75% of our nest boxes were used last year and we hope for more success this year. We are also situated just off the National Cycle Network (Route 1).

The bird population of Avocet Rest comprises of  a flock of 50 resident House Sparrows.  We have Goldfinches in abundance, Blackbirds, Song Thrushes, Woodpigeons, Wagtails, Jays, Magpies, Pheasants, Partridges, Collard Doves, Wrens, Robins and Owls roost in the garden from time to time.

Blue tits, great tits, greenfinches and chaffinches are also visitors to the garden.  Sparrowhawks, Merlins and Kestrels regularly hunt the garden and surrounding fields.

On summer evenings if you are lucky Barn Owls can be seen hunting the dykes and fields adjacent to the bungalow. Harriers, Hen Harriers and the occasional Red Kite and Buzzard are also seen in flight from the garden.
